My Top 10 Travel Experiences of 2016

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAKicking off the New Year with the best of the last!

The time has come (oh hey there New Year!) to wrap up another fab 12 months of travel experiences, I actually really struggled to whittle it down this year but I wanted my top 10 to really mean something so rather than extend the number to 15 or 20 I had to make some cuts! I had so many great new experiences this year travelling to 17 different destinations, all the while working full time at the E! UK & Ireland Host, it’s been a whirlwind but I have loved every moment!!

So let’s get down to the precious 10! They are in no particular order………….all as awesome as each other I’d say. I’ve kept the descriptions short for ease of read but each number has a full feature, just click the link to read all about it 🙂

1 – Bathing rescued elephants in ThailandOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABeing able to be a part of one of the most precious elephant rehabilitation programs in Asia was a real eye opening experience and one of the best days of my year! I got to do it with the best blondie I know too…….so that is always a travel bonus 😉

2 – Getting up close and personal with wild Dolphins in Portugal OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’ve seen dolphins in the great big blue a few times this year but nothing compared to being just metres away from hundreds of bottlenoses in Portugal, they stayed with the boat (just meters away from us!) for over half an hour, it was a pretty unreal experience for my mamma and I and one we still talk about all the time.

3 – Swimming with Wild Whale Sharks in The Maldives Processed with VSCO with c6 presetIt has long been on my bucket list to swim with wild whale sharks and I was lucky enough to find a few gentle giants in the Maldives just a few months ago, the encounter was one of the most surreal yet calming moments of my life. It was also the Maldives that allowed me to dive deep with the Manta Rays, it was a close call on my top 10 for that experience too!

4 – An expected hike to the waterfalls in Costa Navarinoimg_2040Sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you least expect! On a press trip to discover more about the beautiful Costa Navarino, my friend and I discovered more than just a pretty little Greek town! We also discovered it was, in fact, possible to trek for over an hour in birkenstocks! River wading, rock climbing and all 😉

d5 – Exploring the stunning island of Santorini OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis stunning Greek island was my must see destination on 2016 I had asked Mems about holidaying there every year since we married and I have to say, it’s beauty far from delivered!

6 – Staying at The Conrad Maldives TWICE!conrad-maldives-clutch-carry-on-www-clutchandcarryon-com-uk-travel-blogger-50-of-221One of my favourite locations and resorts to visit in the whole world! I can’t say enough great things about this hotel, the views are amazing, service incredible, food delicious, weather amazing and the resort itself is actual paradise. I remember shedding a little tear when leaving The Conrad Maldives in March thinking I would never have the opportunity to go back, luckily for me, I returned and it was just as breathtaking on my second visit!

7 – Taking my best friend to New York for her hen do OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANew York is awesome! I got to visit twice this year and I loved experiencing the city in the summer months, being able to introduce the big apple to Kate made the trip one of the most special few days of my 2016 – the fact she had no idea she was going there also helped with the excitement!

8 – Sky Diving over the Great Barrier Reef swoopware-0113There’s no better way to see one of the wonders of the world than a bird’s eye view 😉 A little sneak peek of one of the travel features to come in 2017!

9- The Golden Globes in Los Angeles img_7419Filming with E! allowed me to travel to Los Angeles a few times in 2016 and each and every trip confirmed my love for the city! I have said it before and I’ll say it again, if I could live in any other city it would be LA. The Golden Globes was especially amazing, I got to see all my favourite actors in the same place, Denzel &  Leo being the highlight of course 😉

10 – Driving the Iconic Route 66 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA trip of a lifetime indeed! The journey that started new journeys……..I am now an official road trip geek! More stories to come on this one and so many already published, just type ‘Route 66’ into my search bar at the top right of the home page 😉 I would recommend this trip to anyone it’ll easily go down as one of my favorite ever travels!

I am so excited about what lies in store for 2017. I’ve already started creating some of the content I’m looking forward to sharing with you guys, I think it’s going to be one exciting year for Clutch & Carry-on! It’s funny because when I first moved to London NYE was always such a sad day for me, I would be so worried that I couldn’t compete with the last year and I would cling on for dear life not wanting to start new a new chapter, nowadays I still feel a little sad to say goodbye to an awesome year but I also get the butterflies of excitement thinking what next year will potentially bring.

What were your favourite travel moments of 2016?
