Mykonos – The C&C Guide

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFresh white architecture, swanky restaurants, plush beach bars and a crystal clear waters, Ibiza married St Tropez and their baby was named Mykonos 😉

A tiny island off the coast of Greece that is fast becoming the hottest spot in Europe. Crystal clear waters, stunning blue and white cultural architecture and year round great weather. There’s then the luxury boutique hotels, happening beach clubs and vibrantly cool restaurants and bars to top of the islands natural beauty.

I recently island hopped my way through a few of the Greek islands with Mykonos being my first stop and so far, topping my favourite on the list of all the Greek islands I’ve seen!

So rather than opting for my usual diary style account of the trip I wanted to break it down a little for you, as part of a new travel guide style series of posts. This way next time you are planning to head somewhere I’ve been you will be able to type the location into my search bar and scroll through to get an idea of the best things to see and do in that particular location. So without further babbling, let’s start with where to stay 😉

Mykonos Number 5

This boutique hotel is everything you could wish for in a luxury getaway. The villas are so grand and spacious and the interiors are simple and stunning. The hotel’s communal areas such as the pool and lounging spots are all decorated to resonate a centrefold in a high end interior design magazine. Think of a ‘modern grecian interior’ pineterst board! Comfy day beds by the pool, pristine fixtures and finishes, comfortable and stylish seating and always a friendly face from the hotel staff to greet you with a smile.

I stayed in a two bedroom villa which was incredible, the room was ridiculously cool which was perfect after spending days in 30 degree weather and once again the interiors were beautiful. The designers of this hotel have perfectly combined Grecian culture with a modern minimalist twist.

Breakfast is served to your room at your request (via a mobile phone provided by the hotel, how cool is that?!) and the spread is fantastic. You can chose from a great selection and the lay out is served wherever you wish 🙂

Location wise the views are stunning, it is a car drive away from the nearest beach but Mykonos is a small island so most places are travelled to easily with a rental car or taxi.

One other thing to mention about this hotel is the amazing hospitality provided by both the owners themselves and the on-site staff. Everyone was perfectly polite and attentive at all times and they all went the extra mile to make sure we were having a fab trip. We stayed for just two nights at this hotel but it has definitely made my mark as one of my favourite european destinations.

My Mykonos Retreat

This is another cute little boutique style hotel with breathtaking views and luxury suites. I didn’t stay at this hotel but I did have an amazing lunch here. The views and communal pool give this retreat the real WOW Factor and if the rest of the hotel is in-keeping with the level or service and grandeur at the lunch then it will be a great place to stay for a few days.

Nammos Beach

Mykonos is famed for it’s happening nightlife but what is also clear from my recent visit is that they also know how to throw a great beach party! If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know that one of my favourite things to do on any holiday is party poolside in the daytime. For me there are few funner moments in life than enjoying a tipple or two in the sunshine whilst jumping in and out of the water and when your surrounded by like minded people there is nothing that beats that awesome party vibe!

If this sounds like a bit of you too then Nammos Beach is an absolute must when travelling to Mykonos.

It’s a little bit of a daytime wonderland if I’m honest! With a private stretch of beach, deck chairs galore, two restaurants and friendly waiting bar staff you have everything you need to enjoy a day at the beach. The vibe is incredible, the places oozes luxury with Chanel Beach bags and Hermes sliders galore, it’s the place to be in Mykonos that’s for sure. Pricey? Absolutely – but oh so worth it.
We grabbed some deck chairs on the beach and were able to place food and drinks orders from there which is what I would personally advise, the restaurants themselves were far too busy for my liking, in fact upon entrance the girls and I were a little overwhelmed at just how many people were there!
This is the place to enjoy as a group, head there around 2pm and stay til doors close at sunset 😉

It’s certainly not romantic or idyllic but if the party atmosphere and cool crowd association is what you seek then this is my best recommendation.

Mykonos Town

For those picture perfect photos with a grecian backdrop head into Mykonos Town. I love strolling through small towns when I travel and mykonos has to be one of the prettiest around. The white buildings not only look beautiful but also act as a natural air conditioning unit and the cobbled streets will have you meandering for hours. If you take a stroll around sunset you will be able to watch the amazing pink haze across the sky with the beautiful windmills as a backdrop.
There is also a beach here but it wouldn’t be my recommendation for a relaxing day and you’ll have far too many onlookers!

There’s a number of cute little boutiques and restaurants and there’s never a dull alleyway in sight 😉 Every corner turned is another instagrammable moment!

PASAJI Restaurant

Think Nikki Beach by night…..the Mykonos Version 😉Sabrina Chakici - Clutch and carry on - travel and style blog, travel blogger - Mykonos travel blog - Folli Follie - FFislandhopping - myfollifollie-3

This bar, restaurant, day club, shisha bar is a great spot for a full evening out with friends or the other half. The restaurant is open air but sheltered and situated on the beach whilst still boasting a 5* luxury style set up. With fab long tables it’s a perfect spot for a lively crowd to enjoy a meal with the sea view and slaty breeze. The food was amazing, we had a sample menu so I didn’t actually choose any of the dishes but every dish that was dined I enjoyed, the mojitos were great too!
After eating you can either move onto the beach and relax on the plush day beds or move further into the restaurant to enjoy a shisha. The vibe switches to a more east african style as you move to the shisha lounge which is very fitting and perfectly located so that you can stil enjoy the sea views.

Clutch Verdict

Mykonos was everything I expected it to be, beautiful, fun and super expensive! Luckily for me I was hosted by the wonderful team at Hotel Brain and invited as a guest of Folli Follie so I didn’t spend a penny but I can appreciate the cost of such a trip. If you are looking for the best mix of both worlds for your next getaway, an influential and hip crowd when it comes to the party scene but still want the stunning serene surroundings I think this is the perfect choice for you.
I feel like this is the place where grown ups go to party if I’m honest. The people seemed to mostly be in their late twenties and thirties which I really liked. As I’m getting older and travelling more I feel uncomfortable and slightly put off if I’m in a place is full of youngsters!
I have every intention of travelling back to Mykonos, I think it’s an island best enjoyed by a mixed group so I’ll be calling on my couple friends for my return 😉

Top Tips & Reasons to Return

I’d recommend hiring a car and exploring some of the sparser beaches as the waters are crisp and clear and the view from the sea up must be breathtaking. If I return on my own I would definitely hire a car, or take extra spending allowance for taxis 😉

You could also hire a yacht for the day and explore the surrounding islands, we travelled via helicopter (more on that in my next post) but the islands are so close to each other it’s worth exploring more than one if you have the means.

When it comes to Mykonos Town – take a great pair of flats, ditch the map and just explore!

You can only see the sunset from one side of the island so take a trip to the other side if needs be and enjoy the view from the highest point possible.

Carry-on Must Haves

-Pack your designers! The town is swimming with trendsetters and the wealthy elite so pack your finest!

-External battery charger is a must – every corner is another snapchat moment so that battery of yours will drain like a mother *!

-A great camera – did I mention how pretty the island is? You won’t want to miss a snap.

-White clothes – Mykonos may not be the white isle but the general theme of dress in the swanky spots is classic white cottons and tan accessories.

Very nice your photos and realized that you really like the water (sea, pool). You had all the services vip Mykonos seems to have spent very beautiful! I agree that anyone who visited the island would be a good idea to rent a car and turn the island, to rent a machine for them that does not suit their car, you can rent a boat in Mykonos and make a ride to Delos.
