The C&C Guide to St Kitts

The island of St Kitts was somewhere that hadn’t really been on my radar but having recently visited it’s now the Caribbean island I’m most excited about returning to. As the destination is still very much up-and-coming there’s always something new and exciting to share, so with that in mind, here’s my Luxury travelers guide to St Kitts:

St Kitts Guide – How to Get There

Given the small and intimate size of it, St Kitts is an easily accessible island within the Caribbean. You can fly, sail or cruise in.

The island is reachable by boat from it’s sister island of Nevis but as St Kitts is often included in Caribbean cruise itinerary’s, most visitors from sea head in via larger vessels. By air the island has direct flights from the US & UK. We flew from London on what was classed as a direct flight with British Airways (the plane did touch down and let passengers off in Antigua but we did not disembark the aircraft there) and that service is offered twice weekly from Gatwick.

Park Hyatt

When it comes to luxury accommodation in St Kitts there’s three options for splashing out and sleeping in style and I had the opportunity to personally visit and vet all three. The newest property on the island is The Park Hyatt St Kitts and she’s a beauty!

In-keeping with the five star luxury standards of the world famous Park Hyatt name, the St Kitts resort offers guests a truly glamorous and surprisingly private escape. With a beautiful stretch of secluded sand, two swimming pools, three restaurants and views that’ll be forever engraved in our memory,  a stay at The Park Hyatt St Kitts is seriously special.

Belle Mont Farm

This unique property has so much to offer guests looking for a unique and sustainable stay in St Kitts. The property prides itself over the idea of home-grown produce and talent by hiring all staff from the island herself and offering farm-to-table dining options.

The rooms are showstoppers here, guests can enjoy a night’s sleep in the rain forest feeling like they are the only ones there. I’ve written a full review on The Belle Mont Farm here.

The Pavilion Beach Club

The swankiest of joints in St Kitts is The Pavilion. The exclusive and boutique resort is the perfect choice for romantic breaks and honeymoon couples with gorgeous open-to-the-sea-view rooms and impeccable first class service.

The pool and bar area are stunning with gorgeous views and a delicious rum punch menu to have to hand whilst gazing out to the ocean. Every corner of the resort is a ‘grammable’ one and the best bit? With just a handful of rooms on the property you’ll never feel as though you are sharing the space with anyone else.

St Kitts Guide – Where to eat

Reggae Beach

For a traditional and lively beach hang-out with the added bonus of simple and hearty traditional food then Reggae beach is your go-to place for lunch in St Kitts. The beachfront venue paints the perfect picture of Caribbean laid-back lunching with a simple wooden shack structure, open bar and plastic picnic tables. As it’s on the sand you can spend all day here after/before you eat, there are loungers to relax on and water sports for the more thrill seeking sunbathers. It’s a cool spot to hang out, the food is yummy and the atmosphere is great.

Ital Creations

With an ethos of ‘If you can’t grow it, you can’t eat it’ this small roadside shack utilizes the fresh and organic ingredients that are grown on the farm it’s based on. The menu is strictly vegan and focuses on the replenishing, healing and energizing power of fresh fruit, vegetables and grains.

The food is absolutely amazing, my favorite meal on the island of St Kitts in fact and the passion from the farm owner radiates through the colorful dishes that they plate up. Oh and the smoothies will rock your world!

Sunset Plage

A gem of a find and one not to miss when travelling to St Kitts is the beach club/restaurant Salt Plage. With an eclectic atmosphere that rivals an Ibiza-style summer scene year-round and a cocktail menu that’ll have you spoiled for choice.  The club is based in Christophe Harbor but also features it’s own jetty allowing guests to travel in by boat. Arriving from the sea showcases quite the pretty visual, gorgeously lit-up palms and comfy lounge nets over the sea, after stepping foot on the jetty it’s highly unlikely you’ll want to ask the boat to return any time soon.

Rum Tasting

Whether you chose just to ‘taste’ or to guzzle down, there’s no escaping rum in St Kitts and to be honest, that was one of the reasons I loved it 😉 Rum punch is served like ice coffees and every establishment will have it’s own twist on the cocktail so make sure you try them all!

Zip Lining

If you’re looking for a little adrenaline rush then St Kitts definitely has something to offer those looking for a thrill! Gliding through the rain forest at high speed on a single piece of wire will tick that box four times over as the St Kitts zip line speeds you through the sky not once, twice or thrice but four ways!

The Scenic Railway

The island used to rely and thrive solely on the sugar industry and there’s evidence of this still if you take the time to explore. One of the coolest ways to see the majority of the island is by hopping onto the rather kitsch double-decker scenic train. The open air train takes you round the island with a cheery guide talking you through the history. All the while with an open bar of rum punch and pina coladas (despite the early departure times ;)). Along the way the island’s traditional choir will also make an appearance which is guaranteed to warm your heart with that infectious Caribbean charm.

Take to the Water

Whether you take a boat to the sister isle of Nevis or go further out to sea and snorkel, the Caribbean is an ocean that’s always a good idea to explore whether sailing on top or diving beneath.

There’s so much to do on such a small island and even just driving from East to West is a beautiful drive, I only had a few days in St Kitts so my guide could easily be extended…just a matter of when I decide to head back there and pad it out with more experiences 😉
