As Mr W.Tr prepares his visit for a few months, the need of a warm and whimsical escape for those of us living in the U.K. has never been more apparent! Allow me to introduce you to a more affordable and far more accessible winter break………
A few weeks ago my bestie Kate and I drove a little north of London to Staffordshire to spend an evening at Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat. Having recently had a baby, (my adorable godson Parker, who you may have seen on my instagram recently!) Kate was in desperate need of a luxurious escape. There wasn’t an option of jetting out of the country to chase the winter sun so instead, we packed an overnight bag and hit the M1 for a few hours. With a disney inspired playlist blaring through my car speakers our girlie get-a-way from our lil’ bubba officially commenced 😉
The drive in to the resort started our imaginary journey of escaping the UK as we drove through winding narrow roads with sweeping tree canopy’s overhead. For those of you living in the hustle and bustle of the city, trust me when I say, the drive alone is worth the venture up!
Moddershall Oaks features all the luxury amenities you would expect at an award-winning spa; a sauna, steam room, large swimming pool and indoor jacuzzi. It also features private rooms with a long list of available treatments for the ultimate indulgence and ample relaxation areas around the pool. The piece the resistance however, and what sets Moddershall Oaks apart from other spas in the U.K. is the unique and stunning outdoor area.
The heated outdoor pool and lounge area is a true haven in the countryside and where you’ll find most spa guests enjoying their time regardless of the often dreary English weather. It’s here, with a glass of champagne in hand and a glossy mag perfectly placed on the pool edge that you feel completely separated and released from city life. The area is busy but with the right company and mindset you can cancel out every other person in the facility and wander you thoughts to elsewhere. On the day of our visit the Autumn sun was beaming down on the south facing jacuzzi and whilst lapping up the heat from the large fireplace I honestly felt as though I was sunbathing in the Cote D’Azur.
The Luxury of staying over for the night is the fact that the day guests leave at 5pm allowing those with a room booked to enjoy the best few hours of the day, the sunset. With a pool-served glass of vino and my best friend by my side we chatted away for hours under the dark night sky and warm glow from the fireplace. Bliss, was this!
Once the day has been spent horizontal……apart from when wading through the heated pools 😉 Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant where a perfectly balanced menu with an extensive wine and cocktail list is presented to chose from. The setting is warm and cosy and he food was delicious, my usually quite limited choices (being a gluten free vegetarian!) were a-plenty and the service was great.
The hotel rooms are all located within a short walking distance from the spa and are perfectly sized and equipped for an evening’s stay.
If the weather is on your side as it was ours, mornings are just as pretty as the evening’s before with the sun rising over the resort lake, which, you can watch elevate whilst enjoying breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Then it’s back to the spa for another day of relaxation.
With the heated pool stealing the show once again the mornings showcase exactly why Moddershall Oaks is the perfect winter escape. The dewy mist that rises over the water is dreamy and mysterious, solidifying exactly why this UK break can be just as magical as a far away escape!
