An interview with Julien MacDonald fresh from the FROW

Major pinch myself moment!!!

Just a few days ago now I took my seat in that famous FROW at London’s One Mayfair, joined by the likes of Jimmy Choo, Rochelle Hulmes and Ella Eyre to witness one of the most extravagant shows London Fashion Week has ever seen, Julien MacDonald’s A/W16 collection.

The collection was stunning! As were the models, both sexes strutted their stuff with attitude on the runway to the booming beat of the church-like venue. I fell head over heels with the shimmering cut out pieces and the subtle animal prints, it was a dream collection!! My favourite look was the gorgeous black two piece at the very top of this post, I will be doing my best to add if to my very own collection 😉

There is no one who does high fashion like Julien MacDonald, everything he makes is a celebration of the body, he has this undeniable ability of making us feel so sexy and empowered! I have said it before and I’ll say it again, if I could chose one designer to dress me for all Red Carpets it would be he. It helps that he is also a super sweetheart!

I was lucky enough to speak to the man himself straight after the catwalk collection debuted, here’s what he had to say about the amazing new collection.

It was such an amazing show well done!!

Oh my god thank-you – we’re in London!!! London is the centre of multi cultural society. I wanted to celebrate the city that I live in – (looks up to the venue) – I think I did.

Was that the inspiration behind the show?

I’m modernistic. I have travelled the world and do you know what, no matter where I am there’s always so many incredible modern buildings, whether it’s Miami or Dubai everything is so glassy, glossy and metallic and I really wanted to reflect the things that I was experiencing in my life.

What does London Fashion Week mean to you?

London fashion week is amazing a lot of great people have come in but do you know what, nobody does glamour, they make nice dresses, but I make glamorous dresses that make women feel empowered and I make men look really sexy 😉

You’ve dressed some amazing people this Red Carpet Season – who’s been your favourite to dress?

I’ve been given the chance to dress some amazing people on the red carpet but do you know what, why do people wear my clothes? because they are glamorous and sexy, they make you look good and if I was a woman and I had to stand in front of millions and world press I would want to look amazing. I design to make women look sexy.

Are you dressing anyone for the OSCARS?

I might be 😉

Eeeeek!!! I can’t wait to watch the Red Carpet at the 28th to see if he does!!!
