The Beach Bod Mini-Break

It’s pretty rare to return from a trip slinkier than when you arrived!

Last month was my first visit to a dedicated ‘Wellness Resort’ and I’m pleased to say it definitely won’t be my last! The idea of a get-away that you can work some lbs away is the prefect break for someone like me 😉 How often do you return form your vacay feeling like you’re carrying a little extra ‘holiday weight?’. It’s a tale too close to home for me and considering I travel and take swimwear photos for a big part of my living it can’t really be an option for me!

I love to experience as much as I can when visiting a new or favourite countries so rather than saying no to the often delicious offerings, when I’m away I try and keep on top of exercising as much as I can so the idea of a trip to somewhere gorgeous and sunny where I can also be health conscious is a little bit of me!

Last month I was invited on a girlie getaway to Portugal by my gorgeous friend Olivia Cox, a fellow presenter and blogger babe who specialises in fitness and lifestyle (check out her awesome blog here). The trip was set to combine our shared loves of travel and keeping fit and we were graciously hosted by the Macdonald Monchique Resort.

The hotel is situated in The Algarve in the prestigious area of Monchique which is home to some rather glamorous and gorgeous beaches as well as luxurious five star resorts and stunning mountainous scenery.

Macdonald Monchique is a secluded hotel nestled high up in Portugal’s Western Woodlands 50 minutes drive away from Faro Airport. The resort boasts sizeable light rooms and suites, a large outdoor swimming pool, daily fitness classes and an award winning spa. A shuttle bus is available to and from the coast 3 times daily, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the beach of Alvor which is where we headed to show off our hard work from the first few days of fitness classes and gym visits. The beach was typically European with sunbeds available to rent and hundreds of tourists lining the sand. The water was great though so Olivia and I took the opportunity to go for a swim against the waves which was probably the highlight of our trip 😉 Where the shuttle drops off guests from the resort there is a really cute beachfront restaurant which is a great place for a spot of lunch if you are planning to spend the entire day at the beach.

Beautiful scenery and amazing weather aside, for me, the true gem of this hotel is the Spa. Not only did I receive the best massage of my life (TWICE!) Olivia and I also loved relaxing in the numerous facilities. The spa features 11 rooms for guests to enjoy as part of a sensory thermal journey from a steam cabin to thermal showers. The pool was a dream too and after chocolate covered strawberries were delivered to us whilst warming up on the heated marble beds how were we to ever leave?!

I left the resort with a feeling fresh and revitalised ready to journey on to Miami. Beach Ready and with a few less knots in my shoulders 😉 Have you ever been to a Wellness retreat? I have got the bug now, where shall I book next?
