Summer Seacation with Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises UK Review

Missing your sacred holidays but not quite ready to travel abroad?

Allow me to introduce you to Princess Cruises Summer Seacations! All the excitement and amusement of a vacay without having to leave ‘home’.

Last month I was invited* onboard Princess Cruises Regal Princess to experience one of their Summer Seacations. A brilliantly novel package that takes all the stress out of travel by providing the same glamorous escape as with their popular destination cruises without leaving the UK.
It was my first ever cruise experience and having never been on a similar style of trip before I was excited at the prospect of enjoying all of the luxuries of the 330m long ship with the sea by my side at all times.

Though we weren’t blessed with fabulous weather for the majority of our 4 night voyage, The Regal Princess was a very special place to be…………

The State Rooms

Though we’ll soon get into what there was to see and do around the ship, inside my stateroom was my favorite place to be! My mini-suite was a large and classically decorated room featured an optically floating balcony leading out to the sea allowing me to have waves in my view at all times. I had my window open the entire time I was in my room just to gaze out at the beauty of our location, it felt as though the whole ocean was mine for a moment.

The Regal Princess proudly features a balcony in 81% of their rooms.

The Facilities on Board The Regal Princess

Starting and ending in Southampton, our cruise made no stops at port but there was so much to enjoy on board making it more than easy to fill up the 4 days we spent at sea. The ship features multiple freshwater swimming pools and jacuzzis, a basketball court, golf putting, lawn games, a fully equipped gym, a running track and that just covers a handful of features on the upper decks.

The razzmatazz that I had only previously dreamed of was below deck for me. The interior of the Regal Princess is like a scene from a James Bond movie with no corner left ‘un-glitzed’ it’s like stepping into a city within itself and it’s all for your on board pleasure…….with three main dining rooms and over five fine-dine options, a casino, games rooms, theaters, a luxury spa and so much more!

Having the best time on board was easy with the Regal Princess OceanMedallion. The hands-free ‘gadget’ which is uniquely personalised and perfectly coin-sized acts as your credit card, room key and even personal tracking device which was such a great feature. Synced with the MedallionClass App the device stores all of your information and payment/package details so that you can order whatever you’d like and the best part….wherever you’d like 😉

You keep it on you at all times enabling not only your friends and family to find out where you are but also the staff members are able to locate you if you just so happen to fancy a pizza whilst you’re ‘out and about’..….you simply order on the app and let the Regal Princess team deliver to right where you are 😉 I was so amazed and in awe of this system, it’s the first time I’ve seen anything like it. I’ve been given a mobile phone at luxury hotels before to call in orders or requests but the ease of everything in one app was next level attentiveness!

Every evening an itinerary of the next day’s events is placed in your room during turn down service and there’s not a minute of the day without some kind of entertainment or activity options. From gym classes to trivia quizzes and live bands to bingo.

As I mentioned, we had little luck with the weather during our Seacation but having so much to enjoy inside made us feel just as jolly to be on a holly 😉

The Sanctuary

Though this Seacation didn’t take me to pastures new in terms of geography it certainly broadened my horizons for just how special a cruise can be.

We got a taste of how incredible being on board felt with sunshine and blue skies as we had one glorious afternoon in The Sanctuary. The dreamy beach-club style space is an adults-only private section of the deck that you can book out for a half day or full day. We enjoyed tanning on the plush sunbeds with our own private waiter and fully stocked cabana, we were even treated to a lovely afternoon tea which was silver served to us whilst we lazed, it was pamper perfection!

At present the cruise is open to those who have been fully vaccinated and prior to entry all passengers including myself underwent a lateral covid test on site which made us all feel at ease and eager to enjoy the facilities at our leisure. Masks also need to be worn in crowded areas and/or in queues on board.

If you are looking for a way to dip your toe back into a holiday atmosphere by sipping cocktails by the pool and indulging in great food and entertainment, all whilst feeling safe and supported then a Summer Seacation could be perfect for you! All-inclusive cruises from Southampton are still available for the remainder of 2021.
